Committee for Improving Student Food Security
The Committee for Improving Student Food Security (CISFS) seeks to improve PSU students’ ability to access affordable, nutritious, culturally relevant food. This will be achieved through fostering community partnerships, increasing awareness, addressing barriers through policy advocacy, and using data to inform and build capacity for action.

Monday, July 13 - Free Food Market

The Oregon Food Bank is coordinating a Free Food Market which is open to all PSU students, faculty & staff, and local community members. Volunteers will place the alotted amount of produce and patnry items on tables, and patrons can choose whether they want to take an item. To adhere to safety guidelines, patrons should not handle or touch items on tables, except to place the item in their bag/box. 

Free Food Market will be at the St. Mary's Academy Parking Lot, on the corner of 6th and Market.

Monday, July 13, 2020, 9:30-11:00 am (or until food is distributed). No identification or proof of income is required. Free Food Market asks that all patrons adhere to safety and social distancing protocols, including wearing a mask.

Finding Food Support During a Pandemic
Resources from Partners for a Hunger Free Oregon

We recognize that students are being impacted in a vareity of ways by the COVID-19 Pandemic. With on-campus in-person services being cut back or closed all together, students may find it difficult to access food help resources during this time. 

Partners for a Hunger Free Oregon have put together a comprehensive webite offering information and resources to help students facing food insecurity with locating and accessing the variety of food resources around the Portland Metro Area.

The PSU SNAP Application Assistants are providing remote services toPSU students during the COVID-19 pandemic. If you haven't applied for SNAP Benefits, reach out to any of the SNAP Application Assistants to schedule a time to talk about the applicaiton process, complete an application, or ask other questions you may have about SNAP. 

The rules to sign up for the SNAP benefit have recently changed! If you are enrolled atleast partime in a two-four year program it's easier to qualify! And it's easier than ever to get help from trained, SNAP representatives on campus. There are more people and hours available to help you through the application process and answer your questions about the program. There are a many different times and locations. The SNAP Assistance Schedule will tell you who you can meet with, when they are available, and where they are located on campus. Don't delay! You could be recieving food assistance.

PSU is excited to announce the addition of a SNAP Education & Training Case Manager through the Dean of Student Life Office to continue to support studnets who are receiving SNAP benefits. You can find more information about this program by visiting our SNAP Education webpage

 

Free Food Market

CISFS is currently not offering Free Food Market. A sub-committee is preparing a plan to re-open Free Food Market, which will incllude appropriate personal safety and physical distancing measures for both our partons and volunteers. However, will need to secure the support and approval from the PSU Incident Response Team in order to re-open Free Food Market.

PSU Food Pantry 

The PSU Food Pantry is available to any PSU student taking one or more credit hours. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the PSU Food Pantry has adopted new protocols in order to adhere to Social Distancing requirements, including moving to a new temporary location.
