Strategic Partner: OHSU

OHSU-PSU Strategic Alliance

In 2012, the Presidents of OHSU and PSU signed a memorandum of understanding declaring their commitment to form a Strategic Alliance “to pursue collaborative programs and projects of value to the Portland Metropolitan Region.” The following Mission and Vision statements were developed to inform the work of the Strategic Alliance:

Mission: The OHSU/PSU Strategic Alliance will develop and expand a portfolio of joint academic, administrative, research, philanthropic and economic development activities that deliver on Oregon and Portland’s shared goal of innovation, scholarship and job creation.

Vision: Through closer programmatic and physical integration, OHSU and PSU will fulfill the region’s ambition for the capabilities of a world class, public research and medical university.

A portfolio of joint programming and building has accelerated annually since establishment of the Strategic Alliance:

  • OHSU-PSU-OSU Collaborative Life Sciences Building (fall 2014)
  • OHSU-PSU School of Public Health (fall 2015)
  • Viking Pavilion Academic Center — a new, multi-purpose venue for PSU and OHSU events (construction began January, 2016)
  • Innovation Quadrant (IQ-Collaborative Action Network launch fall, 2016)
  • Health and Education Building (will house OHSU-PSU School of Public Health, PSU Graduate School of Education, PCC Dental programs and City of Portland bureau)

Governance:

The Strategic Alliance is guided by an Implementation Committee comprised of Vice Presidents and Provosts from each institution.  The Committee meets quarterly to set goals and track progress.  The Committee meets with the PSU and OHSU Presidents on an as-needed basis to review progress and set direction (approximately every 12-18 months).

The work of the Implementation Committee is organized through five pillars:

  • Life Sciences
  • Public Health
  • Innovation and Entrepreneurship
  • Health Pathways (newly established 2017)
  • Engineering (newly established 2017)
