DR. MATT LATTAL

Matt Lattal, Ph.D., is Professor of Behavioral Neuroscience at Oregon Health & Science University. Dr. Lattal received his B.A. from the University of California, San Diego and his Ph.D. in Psychology from the University of Pennsylvania under the mentorship of Robert A. Rescorla. After receiving his Ph.D., he stayed at Penn as a post-doctoral fellow in neuroscience with Ted Abel. Work in his laboratory at OHSU has focused broadly on behavioral, systems, and

molecular mechanisms of learning and memory. His specific research interests include understanding the memory processes and circuitry that underlie formation of new memories and weakening of old memories. This includes normal everyday memories and highly salient memories involving stress or drugs of abuse. His work combines behavioral approaches with pharmacological approaches that target molecular mechanisms of memory. The long-term goal of the research is to help design treatments for clinical disorders that involve especially salient memories, such as occurs in post-traumatic stress disorder and substance use disorders.
