DR. FRODO OKULAM
Frodo Okulam, D. Min. is Adjunct Assistant Professor of feminist spirituality in the Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies Department at Portland State University. She holds an MA in Theology from Mt. Angel Seminary and a Doctor of Ministry degree from San Francisco Theological Seminary. Frodo joined the PSU faculty in 2020 after serving as staff at PSU Library for 15 years. Starting with the one-term course in Women’s Spirituality, she expanded the feminist spirituality program to its current scope. Course topics include Ecofeminist Spirituality, Women’s Spirituality, Feminist Biblical Interpretation, and The Goddess. Frodo is the founder and coordinator of SisterSpirit, a women’s spirituality group in Portland, Oregon and is active in the local Pagan community and other spiritual communities. She was ordained in Metropolitan Community Church, an ecumenical church in the LGBTQIA community. Her writings include The Julian Mystique: Her life and teachings about the mystic Julian of Norwich, a dissertation, EarthSong: SisterSpirit’s contribution to the spirituality of the eco-justice movement, and many articles. Her current research interest is trans and non-binary people in ancient Sumerian mythic traditions and later mythologies. Frodo presented “Reed-marsh People: Gender-variant priestxes in Sumerian mythology and biblical writings” at the Association for the Study of Women and Mythology conference in 2023. She is currently preparing with ritual teams for PaganFaire 2025 “Waters of the World” and SunFest 2025, “Return of the Wandering Goddess.” Through ritual and teaching, Frodo seeks to invite people into a relationship with the Goddess and the natural world.
