College-Owned Computer Policy

College Computer Policy

Faculty, staff, and graduate students will provided with a single computer to meet their needs, keeping in mind that there are significant computing resources available through vlab.pdx.edu and apps.oit.pdx.edu to run PSU licensed software, in addition to the research cluster and servers for higher end computing requirements. Here's the procedure to get equipment, or for someone in CLAS to get a PSU computer replaced:

  •     Requesting person completes the replacement form
  •     CLAS IT determines if that person is eligible for a replacement computer (5 years).
  •     If it's a standard model (laptop or desktop, Mac or PC) CLAS IT replaces it.
  •     If not a standard model, the department purchases a supported machine using G01 index.
  •     When the computer arrives, CLAS IT or OIT image it for PSU use.
  •     The user returns the old computer to CLAS IT (never to OIT).
  •     The department JV's the standard model value funds from the index fund we provide.

If the department decides to keep the old computer, then it is not considered a desktop replacement and no funds are transferred from the dean's office to the department.
