I was hired by Portland State's History Department at the end of July 2002, after having relocated from my native New England several months prior. I've worked in academia virtually my entire life since graduating from Middlebury College as a History and French double major in Spring 1996, with stints in the translation industry and at Harvard University as a support staff member.

In the more than 20 years I've been in the PSU History Department, I've worn a number of hats, as most front-line staff necessarily do. Financial accounting and planning, web design, academic scheduling, ad hoc advising, events planning—every day is different. Best and most gratifying is when I can answer a question for a student or member of the community and give them the information they need to make their next move with confidence.

Since my time here, I have earned a Master's in History, and I particularly enjoy being able to share my experiences from within the program with our current MA students—especially when it can help allay fears or clarify the road ahead.

Outside of PSU, you may find me "conducting research" in one of Portland's many fine brewpubs or bottle shops, as I'm an avid (but still quite mediocre) homebrewer and beer enthusiast. I live with my saint of a partner, Katherine, in SE Portland's Sunnyside neighborhood.
