  1. Óscar Fernández, University Studies faculty, presented a conference paper, “Queering a Coordinator’s Diversity, Equity, and Illusion (DEI) Work in Academe: Disappointments, Self-Deceits, and Hopes Disclosed,” on Feb. 14 in Washington, D.C. for the “Co-Creating Third Spaces: Global South and BIPOC Scholars” panel at the Comparative and International Education Society 2023 conference on “Improving Education for a More Equitable World.”
  2. Shirley A. Jackson, Sociology faculty, was the keynote speaker for Lake Oswego’s Martin Luther King Day celebration on Jan. 15.
  3. Susan Kirtley, English faculty, gave a presentation on “Comics and Women's Liberation at the Intersection of Commerce and Culture” as part of the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry Science Pub on Feb. 7.
  4. Marta Stelmaszak, business faculty, and Erica Wagner, Vice Provost of Student Success, presented “Teaching Case Study: Gender Data Trouble in a Student Information System” at the 56th Annual Hawaii International Conference on System Science from Jan. 3-6 in  Maui, Hawaii. The paper was Nominated for Best Paper Award in Organizational Systems and Technology Track, mini track Social Good and Ill: Implications for Research, Practice, and Policy.
  5. J.J.P. Veerman, Mathematics faculty, gave an invited seminar, titled “Chemical Reaction Network Dynamics” in the Mathematics department of Oregon State University.
  6. Marisa Zapata, Homelessness Research & Action Collaborative director and Urban Studies and Planning faculty, participated on Dec. 6 in the University of Southern California’s Homelessness Policy Research Institute virtual symposium focused on the struggles, innovation, successes, and failures related to housing and homelessness in the high-cost areas of the West Coast.
