Dr. Cristina Herrera was born and raised in Oxnard, California and arrived to PSU in 2021. She earned her PhD in English from Claremont Graduate University, specializing in contemporary Chicana/Latina literature. In 2014, she published her first book, Contemporary Chicana Literature: (Re)Writing the Maternal Script. She published the first book on Chicana young adult literature in 2020, ChicaNerds in Chicana Young Adult Literature: Brown and Nerdy. In her spare time, she enjoys long phone calls with her identical twin sister, reading, and spending time with her family at dog parks and beaches.
