Program Eligibility
- Must be an active LSAMP member (Students who are not active members are welcomed to apply however must complete the enrollment process upon acceptance of placement).
- No prior research experience is preferred
- No specific class standing requirement.
Program Commitments
Research Scholars are expected to fully engage in all aspects of the program. This includes attending all in-person program meetings, which are essential for developing research skills, gaining knowledge, and building community. Virtual attendance is not permitted, so students should plan ahead and adjust their schedules accordingly. Read below for more on program commitments and milestones:
- Attend the Research Scholars Program Orientation before the start of the Fall term.
- Attend all in-person program meetings (three per term; virtual attendance is not permitted).
- Participate in two one-on-one meetings with the program coordinator each term (typically in Weeks 2 and 8).
- Complete 10 hours per week (100 hours per term) at your research placement, totaling 300 hours of research by the end of the academic year.
- Present an oral poster at the Portland State Student Research Symposium in Spring 2026.
- Present an oral poster at the end-of-year LSAMP Student Symposium.
