The Office of Academic Affairs (OAA) is pleased to announce two Provost Fellowship opportunities available for the spring term and invites interested eligible faculty and staff to apply. The Provost Fellow will receive monthly compensation of up to $1,000** and will retain office space in their home department and workspace in the Office of Academic Affairs during the term of the fellowship.

One faculty member and one staff member will be recruited to explore and identify options to support and guide faculty and staff upon their re-entry to work or campus following leave (including a sabbatical, family or medical leave) or an extended period of remote work (see the Academic “Doula Article” linked above for examples) as a mechanism for advancing positive morale, engagement, and success. Faculty applicants must be tenured associate professors, professors, or CA NTTF at comparable ranks, and staff applicants should work in a school, college, or other Academic Affairs unit.

It is expected that the Provost Fellows will spend an average of 8 to 10 hours per week in the Office of Academic Affairs during the term of the fellowship, and both the Fellows and the Provost will agree on a written outline of areas to be addressed.

The goals of the Provost Fellow opportunity are to:
1) Provide faculty and staff members an opportunity to broaden their understanding of and experience in higher education administration
2) Enhance and diversify administrative leadership on campus
3) Enable participants to take part in a variety of decision-making processes
4) Support departmental and institutional efforts through concentrated, guided administrative experiences
5) Engage, empower, and benefit from the expertise of our faculty and staff
6) Further the mission and strategic plan of the University

The scope of work for this fellowship could include, but is not limited to:

  • Review the Work/Life Balance Survey Report linked above, and follow up with key stakeholders such as the Work/Life Balance Committee, Human Resources, Global Diversity & Inclusion, and HR Benefits Team to understand existing resources and needs
  • Survey faculty/staff, Human Resources, and Academic Affairs staff to determine specific additional support needs
  • Review similar programs or activities at other institutions
  • Conduct a research study
  • Provide examples and resources

The final deliverable will be the submission of a comprehensive report to the Interim Provost or their designee at the end of the fellowship that includes recommendations based on this work.
