Online Learning at UNST

Online courses with UNST are a bit different than other online courses, as their intent is to provide an off-campus option that fulfills UNST requirements while maintaining a commitment to an interactive, engaging learning experience.

As a student in a UNST online course, you will be expected to:

  • Check the course website several times per week. UNST online courses require you to check in on what is happening in the course two to three times each week in order to meet deadlines assigned by your instructor.
  • Interact with others. You will be expected to engage with your instructor, your mentor, and your peers in many capacities, including online discussions, group projects, etc. Your instructor and mentor are there to support you, so maintaining an open channel of communication with them is important.
  • Facilitate your own learning. While your instructor may use some lectures, most of your learning will take place via your interaction with discussions, readings, videos, your own research, etc.

Online courses with University Studies take up as much time as a regular face-to-face class, but work well for students who want more flexibility in when they "attend class." If you are organized, self-directing, and able to motivate yourself, then you will do well in these classes; however, if you do not have the time to dedicate to the above expectations, we would encourage you to reconsider taking an online course with UNST at this time.
