Program

The Research Experience for Undergraduates program provides undergraduate students the opportunity to conduct a research project in a research lab and interact with graduate students and be mentored by an experienced faculty advisor.

This NSF-funded Portland State University REU site was established in 2001 under the direction of Dr. Jun Jiao. It has a particular emphasis on multidisciplinary research in the applications of microscopy and microanalysis and has a high recruitment level of women, minorities, and student veterans of the US Armed Forces. The program unites undergraduates from different disciplines, ethnic backgrounds, and institutions, and provides hands-on research experiences to assist them in pursuing careers in science and engineering.

Students go on to pursue research projects in diverse fields like Chemistry, Physics, Biology, Geology, Environmental Science, Mechanical and Materials Engineering, Electrical & Computer Engineering, Civil Engineering, and Computer Sciences.

This is an 8-week intensive research program, which offers $4,000 per student for the entire duration. For more information about deadlines and application process, click here.
