Transfer Degrees & Agreements

Associate degrees earned at community colleges are often designed to transfer directly to a 4-year university.

Degree Type Description

Oregon Transfer Degrees: AAOT, ASOT-B

Washington Direct Transfer: DTA

Designed specifically to transfer to a 4-year institution; all credits will transfer to PSU and you are guaranteed junior level standing.

Associate of Arts: AA

Associate of Sciences: AS

Designed to fulfill the academic distribution model of general education. These degrees are considered transferrable and most, if not all, of your credits will transfer.

Associate of General Studies: AGS

Designed to allow students to choose from a variety of courses to complete the degree. These are not designed for transfer to a 4-year institution; however, many credits will transfer individually.

Associate of Applied Science: AAS

Designed to provide training in a specific technical area, such as Automotive Technology or Dental Hygiene. While some courses may transfer, these degrees are not designed to transfer to a 4-year institution unless a specific articulation agreement is in place

ARTICULATION AGREEMENTS:

Portland State University and many regional community colleges developed specialized articulation agreements for particular programs. Older agreements are often updated and new agreements are being developed. To verify if an articulation agreement is in place for your program, please contact your major department.
