Changing the Narrative of Student Homelessness through Comics

This collaborative storytelling project led by Dr. Kacy McKinney changes the narrative of homelessness through comics featuring the experiences of Portland State University students. It produced a series of 10 comics created in collaboration with PSU students with lived experience of homelessness, local artists, and researchers.

Dr. Lisa K. Bates is a 2019 Creative Capital awardee, recognizing her practice at the intersection of art, urban planning, and radical geographic thought. Through collaboration with multimedia artists, the works ask us to develop new visions of Black history, present, and possibility.
