Leadership Opportunities

  • Anthos Editorial Team: Anthos is the student-edited undergraduate academic journal published by the Honors College. Honors students fill various roles for the journal, including editor-in-chief, managing editor, and junior editors.  Duties include but are not limited to: assisting with promotional campaigns, evaluating and managing submissions, communicating with authors and faculty reviewers in a timely and effective manner, and copy-editing. The editorial board meets weekly, and junior editors receive support from the Managing Editor, Editor-in-Chief, and the faculty advisor. Junior editors receive scholarship support ($500/term).   Applications are now closed for 2025-2026.  Applications will open in April 2026 for the 2026-2027 academic year.  
     
  • Honors Ambassadors: Ambassadors represent the Honors College at events aimed at prospective students. Examples include participating on a panel describing what it’s really like to be an Honors student; mingling with potential students and guests; and leading prospective students and their families on a tour during an Honors visit day. Ambassadors are paid hourly.  Our current Ambassadors will be continuing next year, so this position in not accepting applications for 2025-2026.  
     
  • Honors DEI Ambassadors:   DEI Student Ambassadors build connections with campus resource centers, lead recruitment initiatives for a diverse student body, facilitate communication between students and faculty/administration for DEI initiatives, and participate in regularly scheduled faculty meetings. Your role is essential in cultivating an inclusive Honors College environment and advancing its DEI commitment.  Ambassadors are paid hourly.  Our current DEI Ambassadors will be continuing next year, so this position in not accepting applications for 2025-2026.  
     
  • Honors Communications Interns: Interns assist the UHC Engagement Coordinator in planning, creating, and executing a communications strategy for Honors, including an alumni newsletter, an updated website, and a strong social media presence designed to help us connect with current and prospective Honors students. Interns are recruited to do writing, social media, and graphic design. Interns receive a $750 tuition remission scholarship per term that they serve. Interns are selected in spring term for the next academic year through a competitive application process.  Applications are now closed for 2025-2026.  Applications will open in April 2026 for the 2026-2027 academic year.  
     
  • Honors Community Fellows: The Honors Community Fellows organize social, study, and community outreach events for the Honors student community. Fellows also serve as representatives of the Honors College at larger university events.  Fellows receive a $500 tuition remission scholarship per term.  Fellows are selected in spring term for the next academic year through a competitive application process.  Applications are now closed for 2025-2026.  Applications will open in April 2026 for the 2026-2027 academic year.
     
  • Honors Ecology Lab Assistant Manager Internship: The goal of this internship is to provide an interested and motivated student with an opportunity to gain lab management experience and a “behind the scenes” understanding of how science is taught. The successful candidate will be responsible for updating the equipment and supply inventory, assisting with equipment repair orders, and helping keep the lab space clean and well-organized. The assistant also prepares requests for new equipment orders in spring and performs other duties as outlined by Honors Urban Ecology teaching faculty. Interns receive a $500 tuition remission scholarship per term that they serve. Applications are now closed for 2025-2026.  Applications will open in April 2026 for the 2026-2027 academic year.
     
  • Honors Writing Fellows: The Honors College hosts a small writing center for Honors students staffed by trained Honors undergraduate students. The peer writing tutors, known as the Honors Writing Fellows, receive a tuition remission during their training period and an hourly wage for their tutoring work and ongoing professional development. Trainee Fellows are typically selected in winter term and trained in spring term for employment during the next academic year. Applications are closed for the academic year 2025-2026.  Applications will open again in January 2026.
