Give to Student Survivors

Why Your Donations Matter

Every year, the Women’s Resource Center supports students of all genders who are experiencing sexual and relationship violence -- that may be in the form of dating/domestic violence, sexual assault, sexual harassment, or stalking. We provide confidential services to those students to support them in establishing stability and safety and persisting in their educational pursuits.

Like many other students at PSU and across the nation, our student survivors are often already in a state of economic precarity when they experience trauma and crisis. The legal fees, moving costs, and medical and mental health bills that students accrue as a result of experiencing trauma can be debilitating in the face of student debt, often only part-time employment, and other financial barriers. When student survivors do not have access to the resources they need to find security and stability in housing, childcare, legal fees, and medical and mental health support, the barriers can become insurmountable, forcing them out of school. This is where you come in. Your support of the Women’s Resource Center can help a student survivor find safety, stability, and complete their degree. Your contribution can give a student survivor a better chance of getting their degree - contribute now.

Associated Cost of Survivor Needs

Your financial donations continue to make the WRC a place that practices community care for those most vulnerable and most impacted by violence. With your contributions to the Survivor Support Fund we would have the ability to sustain our support to student survivors with some of the needs listed below:

  • Short-term emergency hotel stay
  • Assistance with child care costs
  • Grocery and household supplies order at a student’s new apartment or house
  • Local relocation costs when fleeing violence such as rental assistance, on campus housing transition expenses
  • Phone bills, electricity, and other utility bills
  • Legal fees for custody or divorce proceedings after domestic violence
  • Security mechanisms such as lock changes, ring doorbell system, etc.

NOTE: This does not include reimbursement for costs already covered, associated PSU student account balances from current or previous academic terms.

Advocacy and Supporting Survivors

In the 2022-2023 academic year alone, we served 124 students who were experiencing some level of sexual or relationship violence - and often experiencing several types of violence at the same time. Our Confidential Advocates supported students in creating safety plans, and referrals for medical, legal, financial, housing, and mental health support as needed. Our advocates wrote lease break letters and supported students accessing emergency and permanent housing to find safety. Our advocates also helped students apply for the Address Confidentiality Program. We supported 40 students going through formal complaint processes within the institution, navigating highly conflictual and challenging investigations and advocating for adequate remediation measures.

Your contribution of any amount makes a positive impact on our students and helps survivors remember that their safety matters to our community. If you can, please give today.
