Viking Scholars is a reception held each spring to recognize high-achieving high school juniors from Oregon on Portland State’s campus and honor their hard work and the commitment of their teachers, counselors, mentors, and communities.
We invite high school counselors from across Oregon to nominate high-achieving juniors to attend Viking Scholars. Most students who attend Viking Scholars will have a GPA at or above a 3.3. If you believe a student satisfies this criteria we invite you to nominate them.
Students who attend will be awarded a $1,000 scholarship to be applied toward their first year at Portland State University in fall 2025. Students who also apply to Honors by January 1, 2025, will receive special consideration for Honors admission as well as for a Laurels Scholarship. Viking Scholars attendees will be invited to a VIP Viking event with the Honors team later this year!
A PSU Viking Scholar is a high school junior who has achieved academic success. They are not afraid of the hard work it takes. They are driven, bold, and determined to succeed. We ask our local high school counselors to help us identify students who they think are potential Viking Scholars and share this page with them. RSVP is required.
