You need the following information to fill out the McNair Electronic Application:

Personal Information

• Your address
• Your parent(s)' or guardian(s)' names
• Have your parent(s) or guardian(s) graduated from college?
• Your unofficial transcripts from PSU or other university if you are a new transfer student
• Know your birth date, social security number and student ID number
• Name of high school and year you graduated
• Name of school and the date you first enrolled in college
• Green Card or Passport (you may be asked to show for proof of citizenship or permanent residence)
• Know your major
• Is your major STEM?

Tax Information

• Your tax forms from the previous year
• If your parent(s) or guardian(s) claimed you as a dependent, you need their tax forms 
• The taxable income and number of dependents claimed are key to establishing low-income
• Your FAFSA report

Letters of Recommendation

• The names and emails of at least one recommender (Note: recommendations from academic references are highly encouraged. You're more than welcome to submit more than one recommendation.)

Education and Career Essay

• Why do you want to be a McNair Scholar?
• Why do you want to complete a PhD?
• How does a PhD help you with your career goals?
• Describe a potential topic or question you would like to explore for your McNair research project?
• What do you consider as your strength(s) and weakness(es)?
