CLAS Grad Student Accolades: Awards & Grants for 2023

  1. Angelica Chan (Speech and Hearing Sciences MS) was awarded a position in the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association's Minority Student Leadership Program (MSLP).
  2. Anne Johnson (Sociology Ph.D.) won the PSU Graduate School's 3 Minute Thesis Competition in November 2023 with her presentation, "' Just Get Ready': A Qualitative Study of Law Enforcement Phlebotomy in the US." Anne’s paper, "'We always got our blood': A Discourse Analysis of News Covering Law Enforcement Phlebotomy in the United States," was selected as the third-place winner for Alpha Kappa Delta's national graduate paper competition.
  3. Jessica Sheets (Speech and Hearing Sciences MS) won the Oregon Speech-Language & Hearing Association OSHA Annual Award for Outstanding Graduate Student.
  4. Graham Taylor (Earth, Environment and Society Ph.D.) received a travel grant to the CORDEX Regional Climate Conference in Trieste, Italy, from the Abdus Salam International Centre for Theoretical Physics, to present “Future timing of wind and rain in CMIP6 models over western North America” in October 2023.
  5. Melissa Ugianskis (Speech and Hearing Sciences MS) won the Academy of Neurologic Communication Disorders & Sciences' 12-month Student Fellowship Award.
