Female student reading a book

Our Mission

The Hatfield Graduate Journal of Public Affairs is a graduate student-led academic journal of the Mark O. Hatfield School of Government in the College of Urban and Public Affairs at Portland State University. The journal features faculty, practitioner, and graduate student submissions that explore a range of public affairs issues.

The mission of the journal is to serve as a focal point for public affairs discussions concerning local, state, national, and international issues. The journal aims to bring together perspectives from across the various fields of research on public affairs – political science, public administration, public policy, and governance. Each volume features a wide-ranging forum for research, discovery, and dialogue of public affairs topics related to a set of equally diversified discipline areas, as is representative of the Mark O. Hatfield School of Government’s research concentrations.

This journal will include submissions under the following categories: original research articles, research briefs, critical responses to research, book reviews, field reports from practitioners, policy memos, review essays, and other forms of informative contribution.
