About the Graduate School

Portland State's Graduate School is the principal resource for student success. We assist students, faculty, and staff with processing graduate certificate and degree requirements, degree status, petition procedures, thesis and dissertation preparation, final oral examinations, eligibility of graduate assistants, and academic standing.

The Graduate School oversees 21 doctoral programs, 89 master's programs, and 48 graduate certificate programs, and we process the graduation paperwork for the over 1,900 graduate degrees and certificates that are awarded annually.

Graduate School by the Numbers

PSU's Grad Stats Dashboard provides information on Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for graduate programs. Browse by college or department to view 5-year admission trends as well as time to degree, demographics and graduation rates. The dashboard also provides more detailed cohort information on persistence and completion rates.

We support graduate programs in the development of new curricular proposals and serves as an advocate for graduate education on campus and in the community. The Graduate School partners with academic programs and other offices on campus to recruit a diverse graduate student population and to meet the needs of students in the pursuit of academic and career goals. We also oversee the distribution of tuition remissions for Graduate Teaching Assistantships, as well as a number of graduate scholarship and awards programs.

The Graduate School is guided by the Dean, who works closely with the Academic Deans on issues related to graduate education. The Dean of the Graduate School also represents PSU with community groups and national and regional graduate school organizations. See our organizational chart.
