ECE faculty, alumni, and students concluded Winter term 2023 with some major accomplishments. Here a few of them we can share:

  • A project between Dr. David Burnett and UC Santa Barbara was accepted to IEEE OCEANS 2023 in Limerick, Ireland (https://limerick23.oceansconference.org/), and was also accepted to that conference's Student Poster Competition (SPC). The SPC is a particularly big deal, because it will feature the work in a focused poster session and includes funding for registration, travel, and lodging. Well done, Dr. Burnett!
  • The University of Utah held a symposium where the former students and faculty talked about old times. Dr.'s Marly Roncken and Ivan Sutherland attended from PSU. Ivan is a “Visiting Scientist” in ECE at PSU. Marly is a Research Professor in CS.  Ivan gave a keynote about the future of Single Flux Quantum digital circuits.  Here is the YouTube link for just Ivan Sutherland’s keynote: https://youtu.be/LUFp6sjKbkE?t=20841
  • The IEEE saw fit to commemorate Dr. Sutherland's research effort from his tenure at UU with a bronze plaque (below)
IEEE Milestone: Development of Computer Graphics and Visualization Techniques, 1965-1978. In 1965, the University of Utah established a Center of Excellent for computer graphics research with Advance Research Projects Agency (ARPA) funding. In 1968, two professors founded the pioneering graphics hardware company Evans & Sutherland. March 2023. IEEE
