HOW TO APPLY

Applying to Portland State University

Whether you are planning to join Portland State as a freshman, transfer student, or postbaccalaureate student, you will need to formally apply to the university. For more information please visit the PSU Admissions site.

Please remember to declare your major as Electrical and Computer Engineering if you are admitted to the university. Before a student is able to take 300-level ECE courses they must also apply for the ECE Upper Division. This is a separate, department-specific application that typically opens shortly after January 1st for the following fall term.

Applying to the ECE Upper Division Program

When you are nearing completion of your lower division coursework (typically around the end of your sophomore year), please fill out the Departmental application for the ECE Upper Division. The application for Fall term is open until April 15. If you are in-progress or transferring courses from outside of PSU that have not yet appeared on your DARS Report, have PDFs of unofficial transcripts ready to upload with your application.

Please see our Undergraduate course plans page for information about the courses that should be completed before applying to the upper division program. There is no problem with applying to the Upper Division if you will still have to complete some of the necessary courses during spring or summer term. If you miss the deadline please email us at eceinfo@pdx.edu to discuss your options.

Postbac students who are following the Bridge Program do not need to apply to the ECE Upper Division in order to take 300-level ECE courses. More information on the Bridge Program can be found here.
