Space Request Process

The Space Request Process begins with a department or unit submitting an online or print Space Request Form to the Campus Planning Office. All space request forms must be approved by the appropriate Dean, Director or Vice President.    

Once a request has been received by the Campus Planning Office, a staff member will contact the requestor to set up a meeting to gather additional information to prepare a Space Allocation Proposal for the Space Allocation Committee. 

The Space Allocation Committee meets on the third Tuesday of every month. To be added to the Space Allocation Committee Agenda, a Space Request Form must be submitted to the Campus Planning Office at least two weeks prior to the meeting.

To request a space on campus, complete the online or print space request form and send into the Campus Planning Office. Once the Campus Planning Office receives and reviews the request, someone will contact the requestor to set up a meeting.

HOW DO I KNOW WHAT SPACE IS AVAILABLE ON CAMPUS?

WHAT GOES INTO A SPACE ALLOCATION PROPOSAL?

The Space Allocation Proposal is a detailed report and analysis of the requesting department or unit’s space needs. After Campus Planning staff meets with the requestor they will compile the information needed for the Space Allocation Committee to make an informed decision about space needs. Campus Planning staff will report on the following:

  • Purpose of the Space Requested
  • Relationship to the Broad University Needs and Mission
  • Program Needs
  • Department Impact
  • Enrollment Impact
  • Efficiency (current and proposed space) 
  • Adjacencies created by the proposal
  • Administrative Cost Impact
  • Revenue Impact
  • Remodeling Costs and Funding
  • Duplication of Space
  • Any additional information as it pertains to the request

HOW DOES THE SPACE ALLOCATION COMMITTEE MAKE A DECISION?

The Space Allocation Committee approves space requests on a simple majority vote. The Committee may approve the request, approve the request with conditions, or deny the request. Visit the Space Allocation Committee page for more detail.
