Classroom Technology Pilot Project

During Winter term 2023, the Office of Information Technology (OIT) will be running a classroom technology pilot to explore alternative classroom technologies that will allow for both in person and remote student attendance.

Since the installation of Zoom technology in classrooms, we have received a lot of valuable feedback about various ways that we could improve both the faculty and student experience of blended learning. In response to that feedback, OIT has designed four pilot classrooms. Each classroom is different, allowing us to test various configurations to determine what will work best for our campus community.

This pilot project has four goals:

  1. Develop a simple blended classroom technology stack at a reasonable cost
  2. Engage with both students and faculty to design a system that meets their needs
  3. Define a new "mid-tier" classroom audio-visual(AV) standard that will be scaled across campus
  4. Create a training program to help faculty be successful using the new technology

During Fall 2022, we are looking for faculty to participate in this pilot program. Participation includes teaching in one of the pilot classrooms, providing feedback on your experience, and helping the project team to solicit feedback from your students. If you are interested in participating, please fill out the classroom technology pilot application before December 9, 2022.

For those who aren't able to teach in the pilot classrooms, but are still interested in experimenting with the rooms, we will be hosting open houses during Winter term. During an open house, you can mimic your favorite teaching activity, invite remote folx into the room, or just get a demo from one of our support staff.

Feedback will be collected throughout the term using various engagement tools. Once the pilot is over, we will analyze the feedback we receive from students, faculty, and campus stakeholders to finalize our new blended classroom AV standard.
