From the 2017 Faculty and Staff Excellence Awards:

Becki Ingersoll is a Portland State University alumna. She joined as a PSU employee in 1995 and has served as Associate Director of Advising and Career Services since 2010. For the past decade, she has worked to advance student success initiatives, first in the Financial Aid Office, then in Admissions, then to the Undergraduate Advising & Support Center (UASC), and now in Advising and Career Services. Becki is someone who always puts students first and has their best interests in mind.

Becki’s recent student initiatives include important projects such as the Coordinated Service Network, Four Year Degree Guarantee, Excessive Credit Project, the Last Mile Committee, and involvement with five different reTHINK initiatives in the past three years.

Becki has served as the floor manager for the Portland State University Spring Commencement Ceremony for the past nine straight years, impacting the final moments and experiences of approximately 18,000 students. Becki continues to serve on the Academic Requirements Committee, a committee she has dedicated ten years of service to and remains as one of the most steady and devoted participants reviewing student petitions. Becki also served on the Deadline Appeals Committee. Anyone who has ever been on that committee knows the quantity of petitions received and looked over.

Becki’s direct service to students, her leadership in advising and her engagement with important student success initiatives clearly demonstrates a commitment to serving students and making the systems that support students better. Becki represents the outstanding service to students that the Cumpston Award strives to honor.

The Mary H. Cumpston Award for Service to Students is given annually to an academic professional or university administrator, without academic rank, who has demonstrated excellence in the area of service to students. Mary H. Cumpston was a beloved colleague who truly embodied the meaning of excellence in service to students to the Portland State University.
