SLP Professional Development

We offer an exciting variety of professional development opportunities. We are an ASHA approved continuing education provider and many of our offerings are free or discounted for community supervisors. We strive to provide workshops, courses, groups, and educational programs that are evidence-based and important to our community.

Continuing education workshops - The focus is on evidence based practice, current issues in the field and mentoring and teaching. We offer evening, full day and half day workshops on campus.

Elective courses - we offer classes in the evenings that are geared towards topics important to professionals. Our current offerings cover topics from bilingualism, to Autism, to medical speech-language pathology. For more information on course offerings and schedules review the featured courses on the Graduate Programs page. For information on registering for classes, visit the Office of the Registrar webpage. For those who are not alumni of PSU, visit the Registrar's/Admissions Non-degree Application webpage. If you work in an educational setting and you are an externship supervisor, you may be eligible to receive a credit voucher for courses at PSU. For more information on credit vouchers, contact, Claudia Meyer at meyerc@pdx.edu.

Education Abroad Program in Ecuador - If you're an SLP who is interested in improving your Spanish skills and better serving bilingual populations, join faculty and students from the PSU SPHR program for 6 weeks in Ecuador this summer. You will take language classes, work in clinical settings, live with a homestay family, travel, and learn more about best practices for working with Spanish-English populations. Earn continuing education credits. For more information on the Ecuador Program, visit the SLPs in Ecuador webpage or contact Dr. Christina Gildersleeve-Neumann at cegn@pdx.edu.

SABOR - Speech Pathologists Advocating for Bilingualism in Oregon - If you're interested in meeting with other SLPs to discuss topics related to working with children from linguistically and culturally diverse backgrounds and obtaining ASHA CEUs, attend our monthly study group. All are welcome! Please contact Claudia Meyer meyerc@pdx.edu to find out more and join the google group.

For registration questions or suggestions on topics or speakers contact Dr. Christina Gildersleeve-Neumann at cegn@pdx.edu.
