J-1 visiting scholars are allowed to transfer their exchange program from one J-1 program sponsor to another as long as the scholar’s program objective and scholar category remains the same. For example, if the PI on a research project moves to another location, the visiting research may wish to transfer to follow the PI and continue the research.
Before beginning the transfer process, it is very important that you discuss your transfer plans with the international scholar adviser at both J program institutions (at PSU and the transfer in/out institution). All parties must agree to the transfer and chose a definite transfer date. It can be very difficult to make changes once the transfer process has started.
If you are considering transferring from PSU to another institution, schedule an appointment with the International Scholar and Faculty Adviser at ISSS at least two (2) months before you wish to transfer.
