WILLIAM AND EDITH ROCKIE GEOGRAPHY SCHOLARSHIP

Multiple awards with minimum of $300

WHO IS ELIGIBLE: Declared majors in Geography at Portland State University, with junior, senior, or graduate standing. Undergraduate majors must have completed a minimum of 18 hours of course work in Geography.
HOW TO APPLY: Submit an essay indicating academic and career interests and goals, and request letters of recommendation from two faculty members. Recipients are required to send a letter to John Rockie detailing academic goals before the award is granted. Awards are dispersed end of the upcoming Fall Term, unless requested earlier by the recipient (i.e., for summer research).

LARRY AND NANCY PRICE RESEARCH GRANT for FIELDWORK in GEOGRAPHY

Single award of $300-$500

WHO IS ELIGIBLE: Declared majors and graduate students in Geography at Portland State University. Non-Geography students with a strong involvement in the Geography Program at PSU may also be considered.
PURPOSE: To support fieldwork in Physical Geography (or other aspects of Geography that involves fieldwork and is particularly meritorious). There are no specific restrictions on the use of the funds. However, the funds are not to be used primarily for instruments or equipment, or exclusively for travel, or for salaries (except for salaries for assistants to the grantees).
HOW TO APPLY: Submit a research proposal, including a detailed budget request. Recipients will receive award during Summer Term.

JOSEPH PORACSKY RESEARCH GRANT IN CARTOGRAPHY

Single award of $300

WHO IS ELIGIBLE: Declared majors and graduate students, including GIS certificate students, in Geography at Portland State University, who are working on spatial analysis, data automation (remote sensing), and map design and production research. Recipients must be in residence the upcoming Fall Term.
PURPOSE: This research grant is intended to support research expenses for students working on spatial analysis, data automation, and map design and production research. Priority will be given to research in line with Joe Poracsky's particular interests in cartographic analysis of urban forestry but all sub-disciplines are welcome to apply. 
HOW TO APPLY: Submit a research proposal, including a detailed budget request.
 

GEOGRAPHY DEPARTMENT STUDENT SERVICE AWARD

One or more awards with minimum of $300

WHO IS ELIGIBLE: Declared majors and graduate students in Geography and GIS certificate students at Portland State University. 
PURPOSE: The Student Service Award honors Geography undergraduate, graduate, or GIS certificate students who have made a significant contribution to department or who have gone above-and-beyond things to help out other individual students who are having difficulties, either scholastic, emotional, or personal. Often the awardee may be a behind-the-scenes person. Residency not required for following Fall term.
HOW TO NOMINATE A FELLOW STUDENT: Submit a letter of nomination for a fellow student as well as any other supporting materials, including at least one additional reference letter (e.g., letters from faculty or other students).
