Who is eligible for honors?
PSU awards Latin honors for undergraduate students only. To qualify, students must have at least 72 credits at PSU, 60 of which must be taken for differentiated grades (not Pass/No Pass). Only PSU credits will be used in this calculation. The honors levels for the ceremony are calculated based on coursework completed through Winter 2016 for Spring 2016 commencement ceremony.
What GPA do you need?
Honors are awarded as follows:
- 3.90 to 4.00 - Summa cum laude
- 3.80 to 3.89 - Magna cum laude
- 3.67 to 3.79 - Cum laude
Why does Portland State use your Winter term GPA?
Latin honors for the purpose of the commencement ceremony are based on your winter term GPA. We are only able to distribute honor cords based on your winter GPA. Your final PSU GPA will determine the honor level for your diploma.
I am eligible for honors, what do I receive?
A student who has been awarded honors will have honors recognition printed on their diploma and on their final transcripts according to their GPA standing.
Honor cords are given to students who are participating in the Commencement Ceremony only. Honor cords are awarded as follows:
- Summa cum laude - Gold Cord
- Magna cum laude - Silver Cord
- Cum laude - Green Cord
Where can I pick up my honor cord?
Honor cords may be picked up at the Graduation Fair on May 18 and 19, 2016 from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. in SMSU 327. Please bring your student ID.
