Jeremy Spoon (Ph.D., University of Hawai'i at Manoa, 2008) is Professor of Anthropology and Director of the Emergency Management and Community Resilience graduate program. An applied environmental anthropologist, Dr. Spoon's research focuses on Indigenous and rural peoples, mountainous protected areas, ethnoecology, hazards and disasters (seismic events, wildfires), place-based spirituality, public education, and collaborative and mixed quantitative and qualitative methods in Nepal and the western United States. Dr. Spoon strives to apply research findings to projects created in participatory and equitable ways, such as the integration of Indigenous knowledge into protected area governance, management, and interpretation or disaster recovery interventions by government and aid organizations.
