Italian Minor Overview

Italian is spoken by more than 100 million people around the world and Italy's political and cultural significance spans more than two millennia, from the Roman empire to the Renaissance to the worlds of fashion, food, and film. Minoring in Italian is an opportunity for you to immerse yourself in the rich Italian language and culture and experience one of the most vibrant European countries.

Our Italian program will teach you how to read, write and speak the language, as well as provide you with an opportunity to explore the history, literature, cinema, and culture of Italy, both past and present. We offer a broad range of courses, with a special emphasis on issues related to migration, film, and women's studies.

Italian Minor: Why PSU?

Our small classes taught by native-speaking faculty will help you reach the highest level of proficiency in Italian and make connections between the Italian language and its culture and history.

You will find a close-knit community and opportunities to experience firsthand the life and culture of Italy with our intensive six-week study abroad program in Sicily, and our annual Italian Film Festival, where you will have a unique chance to explore Italian culture through the lens of some of the most poignant and recent cinema productions.
