Graduate Colloquium

PSU’s Department of World Languages and Literatures hosts an annual graduate colloquium on language, literature, linguistics, applied linguistics, cultural studies and film. It is a regional and international symposium whose participants seek to engage in scholarship across languages. They are also drawn by Portland’s many cultural opportunities.

GLOBALIZATION: INTEGRATION OF LANGUAGES IN OUR MODERN WORLD

Themes in Literature, Linguistics, Language, Film and Cultural Studies


The Department of World Languages & Literatures at Portland State University invites graduate students of modern and classical foreign languages to present their scholarly research on literature, film, culture, linguistics, applied linguistics, language pedagogy, and interdisciplinary studies (e.g., cognitive literary studies, communication studies).

Participants are encouraged to explore international and intercultural patterns and themes, as well as the links between different disciplines and fields. Possible topics and approaches may include, but are not limited to, the following:

Comparative Literature • Cognitive Literary Studies • Linguistics • Translation • Language Pedagogy • Language and History • Culture and Anthropology • Global Patterns

Individual proposals

Presentations are limited to 20 minutes each. While papers may be read in English or in other languages, English is strongly encouraged to increase attendance. Please submit your abstract of 250 words, in English, at https://www.pdx.edu/wll/graduate-colloquium.

If selected, you will receive a link for conference registration ($25). Participants will be notified of selection by March 30.
