From Experience to Profession: Bridging Subsidized Housing System between the U.S. and China

Abstract:

Affordable housing provision systems in China and the U.S. have evolved through their distinct paths. Do they share anything in common? In this seminar, the presenter will cover the course of China’s housing reform in the past four decades through the lens of his own living experience, and make connections to housing challenges and solutions in the U.S.

About the Speaker:

Dr. Vince Wang is the Research Manager of Grounded Solutions Network, where he leads research efforts in promoting permanently affordable housing solutions. Vince has gained experience in urban planning from research, non-profit, local government, and consulting perspectives. He received a doctoral degree in urban and regional planning from University of Florida and a bachelor’s degree in urban design from Sichuan University, China. Being a Chengdu native, he often surprises his friends by not able to stand spicy food; yet, he seems to get along with the rain in Portland after spending 8 years in Florida.
