Placement Exams

Placement exams are designed to assess your mathematics skills and assist you and your academic advisor in selecting the most appropriate courses to sign up for at PSU. 

Math Placement Exam

Students with majors specified below are required to complete the ALEKS Math Placement Exam prior to signing up for Orientation. The only exception is if the student has completed a college-level math course (level 100 or above) at a college or university within the past 12 months.

*Pre-Health Professions tracks include students planning to pursue pre-nursing, pre-medicine, pre-dental, pre-dental hygiene, pre-optometry, pre-pharmacy, pre-occupational therapy, pre-veterinary, pre-naturopathy, pre-clinical lab science, pre-radiation therapy and/or pre-chiropractic programs.

FAQs

  • I have already completed my math placement requirements at another university. Do I need to take the placement exam? If your major is listed above, and you have not completed your most recent college-level math course within the past 12 months, then yes. Your score on the exam will assist you and your adviser in selecting the correct course level if you do still need to complete math, or if you need to enroll in a course that requires mathematics. 
  • What if I am not satisfied with my Math Placement Exam score? The Math Placement Exam can be completed more than once. Also, please know that your academic adviser will consider both your Placement Exam score and the highest level math course you have successfully completed to assist you in selecting your math courses at PSU.
