Get your bachelor’s degree in social work and bring positive change to your community

Building knowledge, skills and experiences that advance social, racial and economic justice is at the heart of PSU’s undergraduate Bachelor’s in Social Work (BSW) program.

Francisco Zamora-Flores, a third-year student in the program from Canby, Oregon, was excited for every bit of it. "The professors always love to hear about students who want to get out into the community and put what we've been learning to work."

Francisco, who wants to work with migrant families, is getting experiences he never imagined.

"For one class we got to observe a child welfare court hearing. It was great to see the things I was reading about in class on display like that, and it was something I never thought I would be doing."

With multiple degree options, flexible class schedules and the built-in support of a student cohort, studying social work at Portland State is a great pathway to enter the professional workforce. Human services professionals are in demand, and the tools and real-world experience students gain at PSU prepare them to work for meaningful change in people's lives and communities.

"I'm the first person in my family to attend college, so I wasn't sure what to expect. I thought I might get lost in the crowd, but the people in my program were always encouraging me. They really seemed to care about me as a person as well as a student."
