Your Day at a Fall 2018 First-Year Orientation

The Orientation Programs staff has worked with partners from across campus to develop an exciting and educational family/guest track for you at your student's First-Year New Student Orientation session. Some portions of the day you will be with your student but the majority of your time will be spent apart. We have created sessions and spaces to specifically to meet the needs of those who are here to support an incoming student. It is our hope that you will connect with PSU representatives and have your questions answered. We also hope that you will connect with other family members/guests/parents who are in attendance during this time.

You will have the chance to hear from and speak with representatives from:

  • the Dean of Student Life office
  • Student Health & Counseling (SHAC)
  • University Housing
  • Student Financial Services
  • Campus Public Safety Office
  • and more!

Orientation sessions for first-year students are full day events with check-in beginning at 8:30 am and course registration typically ending about 4:30 pm. Please be sure to keep this in mind when travel planning and keep your schedule clear during these times, as it is important to be in attendance for the entire session.

Academic Advising

One aspect of the orientation day that is most exciting is meeting with academic advisors and registring for the Fall term. As a family member/parent/guest, you will not attend the advising session with your student. This is your student's chance to work with academic advisors and start building an important relationship that will carry over their time at PSU. Once registration ends, your student will be directed over to the beautiful Simon Benson House to reuite with you.

Your Day at a Fall 2018 Transfer Orientation

Our half day orientation sessions are created for the student who has a foundation of knowledge from their previous institution and we welcome families/guests to attend and support their students as they start their journey at PSU. Everyone who attends will be able to interact with campus representatives during the Resource Fair at the start of the day. A brief welcome and overview of the day will then lead you into programming designed the prepare you for academic advising.

Morning Fall transfer sessions start with check-in at 8:30 am and end at 12:30 pm. Afternoon Fall transfer sessions start with check-in at 12:30 pm and end at 4:30 pm.
