Meet Emily Doerr

Emily began her career in international development, spending two years in the Peace Corps in Mali (she even speaks Bambara) as a health education volunteer. After her return she worked at the US Department of Agriculture in the Foreign Agricultural Service on programs to advance agricultural capacity in middle and low income countries. She dove into communications while at the US Agency for International Development (USAID), she worked to promote the work being done in the education sector and create awareness about the importance of learning to read in the early grades. After nearly three years at USAID, Emily packed her bags and moved back to the Pacific Northwest where she coordinated digital communications that helped win the campaign to regulate, tax and legalize marijuana in Oregon. Prior to joining Portland State University, Emily managed communications at a non-profit focused on creating a better world for everyone through responsible building practices. Emily hails from Spokane, WA, has a BA in Anthropology from Willamette University and a MA in Strategic Communications from American University. Emily has two cats (Pepper and Sally) and a dog (Frida), enjoys traveling, camping, knitting and trying all the amazing food and beverages Portland has to offer along with her fiancé.
