Portland State University featured in the Princeton Review book “The Best 377 Colleges” 2013 edition

Portland State University (PSU) is one of the country’s best institutions for undergraduate education, according to The Princeton Review. The education services company features the school in the new 2013 edition of its annual college guide, “The Best 377 Colleges” (Random House / Princeton Review). The book is The Princeton Review’s flagship college guide.

Only about 15 percent of America’s 2,500 four-year colleges and three colleges outside the United States are profiled in the book. The other Oregon colleges featured in the book are University of Oregon, Willamette University, Lewis and Clark College, Reed College.

"We commend Portland State for its outstanding academics, which is the primary criteria for our selection of schools for the book,” said Robert Franek, Princeton Review’s senior vice president and author of the book.

Franek said school for chosen for inclusion in the book based on institutional data, visits to schools by Princeton Review staff, feedback the company gathers from students attending the schools, and the opinions of Princeton Review staff and its 30-member National College Counselor Advisory Board.

“We also work to keep a wide representation of colleges in the book by region, size, selectivity and character,” Franek said.

The Princeton Review praised PSU for its wide range of academic offerings, diverse student body, and called it “a green-minded urban school that’s training students to be good community members.”  The book also quotes extensively from PSU students.

“The Best 377 Colleges” is the 21st edition of The Princeton Review's annual “best colleges” book.  It is one of 150 Princeton Review books published by Random House in a line that also includes test-prep guides for the ACT, SAT, SAT Subject Tests, and AP exams, plus “The Complete Book of Colleges,” and “Paying for College Without Going Broke.”
