Chuck it for Charity—don’t move out without it

Think before you toss! The Campus Sustainability Office's Chuck It for Charity program makes sure that the unwanted clothing and household items students leave behind when they move out of PSU residence halls go to local charities, instead of to the landfill—donating an average of 10 tons of usable goods each spring.

What’s the buzz at PSU? Beehives are coming to campus this spring

Get ready—PSU’s new campus apiary is buzzing with excitement! For those who don’t know, an “apiary” is a collection of beehives. Over the past year, I’ve been working in collaboration with other PSU students as well as faculty, staff, and local honeybee experts to bring an apiary to PSU’s Community Orchard.

Free seeds for the PSU community

The Student Sustainability Center has launched a new seed library at Portland State where any PSU student, staff, or faculty member can check out FREE seeds to plant and grow. By “library,” we mean that you can donate back seeds that you’ve harvested and saved.

Campus tree inventory, a Living Lab experience

Fall 2015 saw PSU once again offering the capstone “Empowering Portland’s Ecodistricts with GIS and Asset Mapping,” this time with the goal of conducting a comprehensive urban tree inventory of the Portland State University campus and the larger SoMa EcoDistrict, within which our campus resides. Urban tree inventories are increasingly popular and important tools that local governments and institutions can use to quantify and qualify urban forests.
