Portland, OR – The Office of University Communications will host its signature social media event, the #PSUTweetup from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, October 23 at Smith Memorial Student Union Ballroom, 1825 SW Broadway. The #PSUTweetup, sponsored by Vita Coco, Great Clips, Monster Energy, KIND Snacks, Zipcar and University Pointe, is a social media event for PSU social media fans as well as students, staff, faculty, alumni, and friends to meet each other in real life and connect.

Held during the annual Portland State of Mind campus celebration, the #PSUTweetup will pay homage to the 30th anniversary of the movie, "Ghostbusters." The event will feature free admission, a screening of the movie, refreshments, a photobooth, and Halloween costume contest where participants will be eligible to win prizes. The first 100 attendees at the event will receive a free commemorative Ghost Busters Krispy Kreme donut. The Portland Ghostbusters will also make a special appearance during the event. Based in Portland, they are a group of fans and enthusiasts who have built their own props and uniforms just for the love of Ghostbusters.

This event hopes to continue to encompass the objective of several previous #PSUTweetup's held every quarter dating to the first one held in April 2010 – to build community, pride, and tradition on a campus attended by nearly 30,000 students.  “Events like the #PSUTweetup complement the many other exciting events and traditions we have here on campus. We want students to meet new friends and build a community here at PSU,” says Christian Aniciete '10, PSU Social Media Coordinator.

PSU’s official social media presence can be found on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, Tumblr, Wordpress, Flickr and Foursquare. Through social networking sites, PSU hopes to build an online community with the PSU campus community.
