Starting this term, MA TESOL student Rossina Soyan will be working as a research assistant for the BiRCh corpus project (http://birch.ling.brandeis.edu/) headed by Dr. Irina Dubinina and Dr. Sophia Malamud at Brandeis University. The Bilingual Russian Child and Child-Directed speech (BiRCh) corpus is a longitudinal project funded by an NSF grant. The aim is to create an online corpus of language produced by Russian children and their families who live in Russia (a monolingual context), Ukraine, Germany, Canada, and the US (bilingual contexts). Rossina will be responsible for the segmentation of speech into sentences and checking transcriptions.
