LSAMP students win research presentation awards

Portland State undergraduate students in the Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation program won four of six awards for best research presentation at the 2015 Pacific Northwest LSAMP Conference, hosted April 10-12 at the University of Washington in Seattle.

The students—pictured above, left to right—are Emilio Molina, Griselda Velasco, Florisela Herrejon Chavez and Erica Lopez. Their respective undergraduate research mentors are Jun Jiao, Physics; Suzanne Estes, Biology; Jason Podrabsky, Biology; and Marilyn Mackiewicz, Chemistry.

With support from the National Science Foundation and the PSU Provost's Office, LSAMP seeks to increase retention and success of diverse students pursuing STEM degree programs and career pathways.
