Master of Architecture, Cranbrook Academy of Art, 2010

Maria Simon NCARB is a licensed architect currently practicing at Minarik Architecture in Portland Oregon. Maria has several years of experience in the design and planning of large-scale architecture projects including airports, convention centers, and urban mixed-use commercial centers.  During this time she was involved in multiple high profile competitions including invited competitions for transportation and government facilities in the US and Abroad. She developed her research interests out of this work and paused her career to pursue her master’s degree at Cranbrook Academy of Art where she further honed her research trajectory. Her research interests are in the redefinition of drawing as a tool for generating spatial narratives and fabrication processes and the tectonics of spatial intimacy.

Since attending Cranbrook, Maria has continued to practice and teach at several institutions throughout the country including ORG in Boston and Todd Williams and Billie Tsien Architects in New York. She has taught at Lawrence Technological University and the University of Hawaii at Manoa where she held a joint appointment to teach and serve as the Site and Architectural Advisor to Hawaii’s bid for the Barack Obama Presidential Center. Maria also maintains an active research practice and exhibited her latest work at Big Models in LA.
