Linn County “Now is the Time” Project AWARE-Community Grant

The purpose of Linn County Project AWARE-C Youth Mental Health First Aid (YMFHA) Training Grant is to support the training of teachers, other school staff, and a wide range of community partners and other adults in Youth Mental Health First Aid (YMHFA).  The implementation of YMHFA in Linn County is expected to increase mental health literacy among adult providers, policy-makers, and administrators of programs serving youth. Portland State University (PSU) will assist with the evaluation of the following program objectives: (1) Increase the capacity to train youth-serving adults in YMHFA, (2) Increase the number of adults trained in YMHFA. (3) Increase the capacity of adults to respond to adolescent behavioral health issues, and (4) Increase referrals of youth to behavioral health resources by adult first aiders.  The grant period is October 2015 – September 2018.

The PSU RRI was established in 1972 and is a part of the Graduate School of Social Work.  It provides research and evaluation for community-based organizations with an ongoing focus of including consumers of services in all aspects of the research process.
