The more you engage in campus activities, the more successful your college experience will be. The opportunities listed below reflect the various programs and departments in which you can get involved to develop your leadership skills. A student leader at Portland State, whether in a formal position or not, nurtures abilities in themselves and other in order to make an ethical and socially just impact on campus or in their larger community.


NEVER A DULL MOMENT.  Come to an event organized by the Programming Board or one of the many student organizations or student-focused departments.  There is always something going on. Check out the Calendar of Events for a comprehensive calendar or consider downloading the Portland State app.

EXPLORE CAMPUS LIFE. Engage with Student-Operated Services by visiting the Littman and White Galleries on the second floor of Smith, catching a Live @ Lunch concert in the Park Blocks, or watching a movie at the 5th Avenue Cinema.

READ, LISTEN, WATCH. Read the papers, listen to the radio, watch PSU-TV, submit a story or poem.  Student Media keeps you informed and in touch with Portland State.


STUDENT GOVERNMENT. Did you know that Student Government represents student interests on committees, allocates $14 million of student fees a year, and advocates for students at the state level and across campus.  Consider interning or running for office.

JOIN OR START A STUDENT ORGANIZATION. We offer over 150 student organizations to choose from.  Find the Right Student Organization For You or Start Your Own.

LET KNOWLEDGE SERVE THE CITY by participating with the Student Community Engagement Center. You can gain experience and serve the community by participating in a year-long, term-long, or day-long project or joining us for Alternative Spring Break.
