About the film:

MILK MEN follows the paths of farmers in the PNW. As the global economics of dairy farming has winnowed out most small and medium-sized dairies, the surviving farmers confront intense pressures to intensify production, even as they find that getting bigger presents new problems.

The film provides a corrective to both the highly romanticized and the demonized portraits of dairy farmers that circulate in the mainstream media. Two stereotypes predominate--whether the cheery bucolic scene of farmers with their happy cows or the darkly cast world of the “factory farm,” both pictures miss the complexity of this form of work, with its mix of business skills, animal science, technology, and social networks required to keep the enterprise going.
