Preparing Students for Ethical Community Engagement
Friday, February 21, 2020 - 10:00am to Friday, February 21, 2020 - 11:30am

Community-based learning has the potential to create both meaningful learning for students and positive social change in our communities. But how can we prepare students to enter communities responsibly, and how do we inspire them to move beyond the stereotypes of volunteering and into a framework of reciprocal engagement? In this active workshop, explore creative classroom activities that can help students understand the purpose and principles of ethical community engagement. Participants will engage in critical reflection and have the opportunity to workshop specific techniques for introducing students to cultural responsiveness, anti-oppressive practice, humility, reciprocity, and reflection within community-based learning projects. This event is geared for new and experienced CBL practitioners alike.
