Student Leaders for Service Team Members

This form is to request a Student Leaders for Service Member to come speak in your class or event to promote community engagement. This can be in regard to their service site specifically or community-based learning experiences as a whole. Please submit this form 1 week prior to your desired class or event day. We will do our best to accommodate but due to student schedules some flexibility may be needed.

Fatima Preciado Mendoza 

Community Partner: AVID Beaverton School District

Fatima Preciado Mendoza is a second year student majoring in Political Science. She will be serving at AVID Beaverton School District this year. A fun fact about Fatima is that she loves to learn about new cultures and try new exciting food!

Ana Ortega Bustamente 

Community Partner: Rose Heaven

Ana Ortega Bustamante is a transfer student majoring in Social Work and she is currently in her senior year. Her community partner this year is Rose Heaven. Which is a day shelter for women and children in need of food, clothing and somewhere to go during the day. Something to know about Ana is that she is an only child and that she loves dancing.

Taylor Young 

Community Partner: New Avenues for Youth

Taylor Young is majoring in sociology and her community partner this year is New Avenues for Youth. This organization help homeless/at risk teens find resources to get them back on track. They also supply housing, drop-in food, and many other resources. A fun fact about Taylor is that she loves fashion and would like to combine Social Work with Fashion.

Shanaz Ahmed 

Community Partner: Portland State Food Pantry

Shanaz Ahmed is a sophomore at PSU, majoring in General Sciences. Her service site for SLS is the PSU Food Pantry, which is an excellent resource for students to use as it provides free food. She is also an officer for the PSU Optometry Club. 

Michelle Chan

Community Partner: Trillium Family Services

Michelle Chan is majoring in Anthropology and liberal Studies with a minor in Psychology. This year Michelle will be serving at Trillium Family Services. This organization provides series for children with mental and behavioral issues. She will be working with the Keep Oregon Well campaign to get rid of the negative stigma of mental health. A fun Fact about Michelle is that she loves food. She can eat a dozen donuts in one sitting. She also loves to explore the city and travel to new places.

Thi Nguyen   

Community Partner: Food Pantry at PSU

Thi Nguyen is an Accounting major. As an international student from Vietnam, she is really excited to be a service leader, since this experience will help her learn more about the U.S culture. Her community site this year is the Food Pantry at PSU. She spend her time listening to music and going on hikes.  

Augustine Anonyuo

Community Partner: HOLLA Mentors

Augustine Onyekachukwu Anonyuo majors in Mechanical Engineering. This year he will be serving at HOLLA mentors. Augustine really enjoys supporting and advocating for academically and economically challenged children at his Site.  For fun, Augustine likes to dance and listen to music.


Moussa Kone

Community Partner: HOLLA Mentors

Moussa Kone is a student in the Computer Engineering program. His community partner is HOLLA Mentors. He is from a beautiful city in West Africa called Bamako, the capital city of Mali.

Philip Randal

Community Partner: Kairos PDX

Philip Randal prefers to be called Phil. He is majoring in Social Work with a minor in Community development. Phil’s community partner this year will be Kairos PDX. This organization works with children to end education gaps. A fan fact about Phil is that he has a cat tattoo.

Samantha Alarcon

Community Partner: Rose Heaven

Samantha Alarcon is majoring in Global Studies and Sociology. This year Samantha will be serving at Rose Heaven Community center, which is a safe space for homeless women. Rose Heaven provides meals, clothes, showers, medical appointments, art classes, spirituality classes, bingo and many other activities. It does not receive government support, everything at Rose Heaven are based on donation and fundraising. A fun fact about Sam is that she can't handle spicy food. 

Alondra Hernandez

Community Partner: Store to Door

Alondra Hernandez is a Social Work major with a psychology minor. This will be her third year at Portland State University. Alondra is a returning SLS member and her community partner this year is Store to Door. Alondra is also a Student Ambassador and gives tour of campus regularly. A fun fact about Alondra is that she knows how to belly dance!

Isabela Villarreal

Community Partner: SOLVE Oregon

Isabela Villarreal is majoring in Community Development and minoring in Spanish. She will be serving at SOLVE Oregon this year. Isabela Is relly excited to serve an organization that works to keep Oregon’s Nature environment healthy and clean. Isabela loves no pulp orange juice and working for a sustainable future.

Rupika Dikkala

Community Partner: Beaverton School District AVID

Rupika Dikkala is a 3rd year Computer Science student. She is excited to start as a tutor at her community partner site, AVID @ Beaverton School District. AVID is a program that helps students cultivate learning and academic behavioral skills to ensure success while tackling rigorous course work - it also serves as a catalyst for schools to develop a culture of college-readiness for students across the program. A fun fact about Rupika is that she can make a really good cup of masala chai! Tea.

Rosa Garcia-Moreno

Community Partner: Sunshine Division

Rosa Garcia is majoring in Social Work. As an SLS Member, she is working with Sunshine Division, which provides food and clothing for families in the community. A fun fact about Rosa is that she has a collection of stickers.

Yves Wienecke

Community Partner: Ronald McDonald Charity House

Yves Wienecke is currently a sophomore studying Computer Science and Russian at Portland State University. He is partnered up with the Ronald McDonald Charity House for the 2017-2018 academic year. Ronald McDonald Charity House provides lodging and services for families with children that are receiving care from the neighboring children's hospital. Ives favorite dog breeds are German Shepard, Australian Shepard, and Pitbull, but he does not have any pets (yet!).


Gabriel Loyd

Community Partner: Rose Haven

Gabriel Loyd is a Theater Arts major and playwriting/poet. They will be working with the Rose Heaven Center to provide resources for women and femms who find themselves in need. They will also be participating in a queer theater festival later in the year.

Alexandra Van

Community Partner: Food Pantry at PSU

Alex Van is a first year graduate student earning her Masters in Social Work. She is serving at the PSU Food Pantry, serving free healthy food to our student population. A fun fact about Alex is that she is also interning at Catholic Charities Housing Transitions, a program that helps houseless women access resources and long-term housing.
