This form is to request a Student Leaders for Service Member to come speak in your class or event to promote community engagement. This can be in regard to their service site specifically or community-based learning experiences as a whole. Please submit this form 1 week prior to your desired class or event day. We will do our best to accommodate but due to student schedules some flexibility may be needed.

Shanaz Ahmed

Community Partner: PSU Food Pantry

Hello, my name is Shanaz and I am a senior at PSU majoring in general science with a pre-optometry track. I am serving at the Portland State Food Pantry this year, which is an amazing resource available to all PSU students. The food pantry is open Mondays- Fridays from 12:30-2:30 and open for all students to access the free food! It is my third year in Student Leaders for Service; I am so thankful for the opportunity to be a part of such a wonderful program for this long. I am so excited to serve my community this last year!

Al-Muthanna Atieh 

Community Partner: Free Geek

I'm a sophomore majored in Computer Science. I'll be working on Marketing and Development with Free Geek. It'll be exciting to learn about the inner­workings of a nonprofit. I also love storytelling and meeting/hanging out with new people.

Aja Bedwell

Community Partner: Sabin CDC

Aja Bedwell is a second year student majoring in Business Administration with a double minor in Community Development and Environmental Sustainability. She will be serving at Sabin CDC this year. Sabin CDC’s mission is to provide affordable housing while also building a sense of belonging in culturally diverse neighborhoods in Portland. Aja loves spending her free time outdoors hiking or camping, but also enjoys staying inside to watch a good movie.

Miranda Donker 

Community Partner: YWCA

I’m a junior this year majoring in Public Health focusing on Community Health Education. My community partner this year is the YWCA. I’ll be working with other volunteers to create events, serve the community, and learn more in depth about systemic changes and social justice. A fun fact about me is that I was named after the mom in the movie Mrs. Doubtfire


Alexander Drew

Community Partner: PSU Food Pantry

Alex Drew is a postbaccalaureate pre-dentistry student. He is excited for his second year with SLS, after serving with Habitat for Humanity ReStore the previous year. This year his community partner site is the PSU Food Pantry, a resource which provides free food to PSU students five days per week. A fun fact about Alex is that he also volunteers with Rabbit Advocates, an organization that promotes the welfare of domestic rabbits. In the past year, he has fostered seven rabbits for the organization.

Sarah Rose Ende   

Community Partner: Maybelle Center

Sarah Rose is in her senior year, majoring in Community Development. She will be serving at Maybelle Center for Community in the heart of downtown Portland’s Old Town/Chinatown. The center serves marginalized communities that have/are experiencing isolation. Maybelle provides the activities,resources and space to build meaningful relationships and communities. Fun fact about Sarah Rose, she treats life like a musical, singing and dancing her way through it

Melissa Lamproe

Community Partner: Our House

Melissa Lamproe is a junior year accounting student and Ford scholar, focusing on non-profit organizations, marketing, and social activism. Her community partner site is Our House of Portland, a non-profit that helps people with HIV/AIDS live healthy and full lives. Melissa has a passion for community service and a soft spot for underrepresented communities, which makes her development internship with Our House of Portland the perfect fit.

Angela Naseri

Community Partner: Rose Haven

Hello! My name is Angela Naseri and I am a senior at PSU, pursuing a Bachelors Degree of Science. I am grateful for the opportunity to be a service leader this year, and my service site is Rose Haven. I am also involved as co-president for the pre-optometry club and the Arab-Persian Student Organization. In my free time I enjoy reading and exploring the beautiful Northwest.


Philip Randal

Community Partner: City Repair Project

Phil Randall is a 4th year student studying community development. He is serving with the City Repair Project which work on placemaking projects. He will graduate in the spring of 2019 with aspirations for graduate school in the Masters of Urban Planning program. A fun fact about Phil is that he has a tattoo of his cat.

Maria Quintanilla

Community Partner: Ronald McDonald House

My name is Maria Quintanilla-Campos. I'm currently at Portland State University. I'm doing a double major, my first one is Community Health Education and my second one is Spanish. I'm a Sophomore about to be a Junior at the end of Fall term. I was born and raised in El Salvador until I was 8 years old; I came to the United States where I graduated from De La Salle North Catholic High School. I'm currently doing a internship at Ronald McDonald House Charities, I'm their Special Events program where I'm going to help them with planning events and much more!


Sharona Shnayder

Community Partner: PSU Food Pantry

Sharona Shnayder is a 3rd year student majoring in Accounting. Her community partner is the PSU Food Pantry. The Pantry is free to all students taking 1 or more credits, and a great resource for those facing food insecurity on campus. A fun fact about Sharona is that she loves reading and hiking in her free time.


Eve Ning Rose

Community Partner: City Repair Project

Eve is majoring in Theatre which is a step towards fulfilling her dream of becoming a stage manager for Cirque du Soleil. She is serving with The City Repair Project; a community group with a passion for permaculture, creating art and finding ways to bring people together to learn and grow. A fun fact about Eve is that she is the mama to two sugar gliders (Pan + Tin)

Virginia Vu

Community Partner: Rose Haven

Virginia Vu is majoring in Community Development. Her community partner is Rose Haven which serves as a day shelter and community center for women, children and gender non- conforming folks. The organization works to meet basic needs while empowering their guests to get back on their feet. A fun fact about Virginia is that she likes to travel.

Linh Vuong

Community Partner: PSU Food Pantry

Born and raised in Vietnam, Linh is currently a third-year student majoring in Biology at Portland State University. She will be serving at the PSU Food Pantry for the 2018-2019 school year. Linh enjoys doing outdoor activities along with finding different places to explore and dine at.


Taylor Young

Community Partner: Makerspace

Hola! My name is Taylor #senior at PSU studying sociology. I chose to study sociology because I felt it would give the background knowledge needed to understand how the world has been operating. Along with my studies I am involved in many programs, one being SLS. My service site is at a makerspace located inside a library. My hope is that the youth will establish creative ways to identify their values because I feel it will allow them to be fearless as they grow into adulthood. In my free time I enjoy sewing and fashion design. I hope to have opportunities to work with companies such as Viacom and Warner Bros. in the wardrobe department for TV and Daytime Talk shows. Also, I hope to assist designers such as Pyer Moss on fashion shows to gain experience and knowledge for my own. Shout out to God andmy family for their endless support! Peace.

 


Yves Wienecke

Community Partner: Free Geek

Yves Wienecke is a third honors year student majoring in Computer Science and Russian. He is a returning SLS member who is now partnered up with Free Geek, which is an organization that takes hardware donations and either recycles them or gives them a second life. They also provide education to anyone who is interested in the inner working of computers or wanting to learn how to code. If you need help with any software or hardware issues, Yves is your guy! In his free time, he likes to be active, play the piano, and read up on all the latest news related to technology.

 

Anis Zaman

Community Partner: PSU Food Pantry

I was born and raised in Khulna, a major city located in Southern part of Bangladesh. I have worked with the United Nations (UN) in Liberia as peacekeeper and travelled many parts of West Africa. I have also worked as peacekeeping trainer in Indonesia. I came to USA in 2017 for higher study in Peace and conflict management. Currently, I am pursuing my masters in Conflict Resolution at PSU. Having lived in Portland for more than one year I have learned many aspects of US culture, which really enriched my knowledge. Here in PSU, I am working as Graduate Teaching Assistant of University Studies, I am a member of International Cultural Service Program (ICSP), I am an International Students Mentor for 2018-19, and I am also a Student Leaders Fellow of Student Sustainability Center. I am also involved with Bangladesh Student Association (BSA), which is constantly seeking the opportunity to share Bangladeshi culture with International students here in PSU and with the Portland community. Since my childhood I have special interest in working with the communities and learning about other cultures. My passion for learning other culture inspired me to travel many countries such as France, Switzerland, Denmark, Sweden, Italy, Netherland, Ghana, Ivory Coast, Liberia, Guinea, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Turkey, Morocco and Qatar. I am proud to be a Student Leader For Service and excited to work with our community partners in the Portland.
