MFA in Creative Writing announces Third Thursdays
Author: MfA in Creative Writing

This spring we will begin a series we are calling Third Thursdays - a noontime brownbag gathering where students (and faculty) can meet and talk informally (Q & A) with invited guests who come with professional experience in areas of interest to writers. The range of topics that the series may take has no limitations.

Please let us know of people you would like to have invited. Oregon is home to great publishers and presses (Tin House, Glimmer Train, Hawthorne Books, Dark Horse Comics), literary and arts organizations (Literary Arts, Write Around Portland, Wordstock, Oregon Cultural Heritage Foundation, PICA, the Art Museum, Fishtrap, Caldera), non-art related non-profits (Mercy Corps, Oregon Community Foundation), and it is rich with business people who are interested in writing and reading - some who are themselves writers-working productively and happily in professions other than academia. Many of them are glad to talk with students about their own professional choices and about professional opportunities in their field.

We would like your suggestions of who to invite.

Third Thursdays will meet in 407 NH, noon to 2:00 each month. Please come, bring your lunch. It's all right if you can't stay for the entirety or must arrive after the brownbag begins.

Our spring Third Thursday guests will be:

Betsy Amster, a successful literary agent and former editor at Pantheon and Vintage, on April 21st.

Brian Gard, founder and president of Gard Communications, an advertising and PR firm, and a former English professor, on May 19th.
